Our Northamptonshire member Mick Wells has produced a book of his fairground transport shots taken in England and Scotland between 2009 and 2011. Attractively presented, the almost square format book (size 168 x 172 mm) contains 75 pictures Mick shot during those two years. All are in full colour, reproduced and printed to a very high standard. This is a must for transport enthusiasts and will sit well alongside Mick’s companion publication, Circus Transport Photo Album 1.

Michael Wells is well known as an accomplished photographer of circus transport, contributing to the CFA’s transport books, and he has now published through Blurb his first book, which is very cleanly designed and laid out, by Michael himself.

The attractive book is in a small square format, 170 x 170mm, with 80 pages. The colour photos were all taken during the past three years and the circuses include Uncle Sam’s, Chinese State, Bobby Roberts, Moscow State, Zippos Encore!, Starr, Hilarious, Russells, Normandie and Zippos Phoenix. With the exception of the American trucks on Uncle Sam’s, most other shows feature ERFs and Fodens of various types and liveries.

There’s a consistent approach throughout. Each page has one photo, with a caption indicating the circus, truck type and use, and where and when. All the photos seem to have been taken on fine days (little mud to be seen!), with the vehicles parked up and nobody in sight. In the forthcoming Photo Album 2, photos from earlier years are promised.
